08 October 2022 – The winner of the 2022 Chairman’s Award was announced at the WRSA-Mitsubishi Gala Dinner & Award Celebration by WRSA Chairman, Mr. Gerhard Heyneke.
Winner: John Hurter, WRSA Eastern Cape Chairman
“The chairman’s award goes to a person who has rendered selfless service to WRSA. This person is characterized by professional conduct and service to WRSA as an organisation at a level that deserves exceptional recognition. The contribution of the person plays a key role in the progress and development of the wildlife industry.
In his own unique way, John Hurter made a huge contribution to WRSA at the provincial and the national level. John is a modest person who is content to make his contribution out of the limelight. At provincial level in the Eastern Cape, John has made an enormous contribution to WRSA with his inputs at various meetings as well as with the effective communication with various departments to address problems for game ranchers. He also played an instrumental role in the development and management of the planned certification scheme for game farming at national level in SA. John also created the framework for the 10 principles for game farming and played a significant role in its development. John Hurter’s contribution is extraordinary and there is no time limit on his day, night, or weekends. He is an example of hard work and exceptional perseverance for everyone in the wildlife industry.”
