08 October 2022 – The winner of the 2022 Wildlife Ranching South Africa Eco-Tourism Award was announced at the WRSA-Mitsubishi Gala Dinner & Award Celebration by WRSA Northern Cape Chairman, Mr. Jacques Kriek.
Winner: Karel Landman of Pongola Game Reserve.
“With tourism contributing over R138 billion rand to South Africa’s GDP annually (pre-COVID) and with a large percentage of the travel to SA being for our fauna and flora, this category is essential for all wildlife industry participants to be truly diversified. Candidates must be role models and be involved in the industry and strive to create a perfect balance between consumptive and non-consumptive tourism. They must have a successful and self-sustaining farm, with a strong focus on sustainable eco-tourism for the local and international market. A broad focus on the diversity of products and activities is essential for both the local and international market. They must promote conservation; and place strong emphasis on economic returns in all facets of their venture and strive toward an optimal value chain. A higher weight will be given on the evaluation criteria scoring to an establishment with TGCSA (Tourism Graded Council South Africa) membership.”
