08 October 2022 – The winner of the 2022 Wildlife Ranching South Africa’s Hunting Destination (Local and International) Award was announced at the WRSA-Mitsubishi Gala Dinner & Award Celebration by Mr. Rodney Davey.

Winner: NB Safaris

“With the hunting industry under pressure from the anti-hunting lobbyists, it is essential to reward establishments that have remained passionate, loyal, and focused on their trade. With the hunter being the ultimate end-user of our wildlife products, this is essential for the survival of our wildlife industry and the future of our conservation efforts.

The candidate must be a role model and be involved in the industry.
The nominee must be a registered hunting outfitter and be a professional hunter or employ professional hunters.
To qualify for this award, they must be the owner of the land where hunting operations are run. A proven record of accomplishment weighs heavily in this category along with the satisfaction of clients and return visitors.
Nominees must be members of relevant local and/or international hunting organisations and run a successful and self-sustaining farm, with a strong focus on sustainable use, fair chase, acceptable practices, and professional media liaison promotion.
They must promote conservation through sustainable utilisation and education; and place strong emphasis on economic returns in all facets of their venture and strive toward an optimal value chain.

A higher weight will be given on the evaluation criteria scoring, to a nominee who practices social responsibility in terms of skills development and food security as well as meat distribution/education to/of especially surrounding communities.

With tremendously strong candidates in this category in terms of number of clients, best practices, turnover etc. it was a tough decision only differentiated by a few points.

The award for the Wildlife Ranching South Africa’s Hunting Establishment (Local and International) for 2022 goes to NB Safaris and the late Neil Barnard. The award was accepted by his wife, Debbie Barnard.”
