23 October 2023 – Every few years, as per the Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI), WRSA refreshes their governance structures. At this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 13 October at the Irene Country Lodge during the WRSA Conference 2023, a new Chairman, Vice-Chairman and two directors were elected.
WRSA Chairman: Colin Engelbrecht
Colin studied B.Com at North West University, whereafter he also earned a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from Stellenbosch University and a Certificate in Marketing from the Rand Afrikaans University.
He is a highly experienced wildlife and predator breeder and was a finalist for the 2013 WRSA Wildlife Rancher of the Year. Colin has a long track record of serving the industry as a member, leader, and advisor on a wide variety of wildlife issues. Currently, he also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the North-West Animal Health Forum (since 2017) and until his election as the new WRSA Chairman, served as the vice-Chairman of WRSA.
He is a committed and dedicated leader, with a tenacious results-driven approach and will follow through on any goal until its results are delivered.
WRSA Vice-Chairman: Malan Davey

Malan graduated from the University of Pretoria with an Animal Science degree as well as an Honours Degree in Wildlife Management. He also obtained a Diploma in Tourism and is a qualified Professional Hunter.
He lives in Limpopo with his family where he is a member of the successful Romaco Ranch team where he gets to live his passion for working with nature and animals.
Malan has been a member of the WRSA Naboom Regional Interest Group (RIG) since 2010, and became the chairman of the RIG in 2017. He was elected as a director of WRSA in 2021.
WRSA forms an integral part of his passion and livelihood and that is why he is dedicated to help WRSA to grow from strength to strength.
Elected Director: Kgomotso Maphai
Kgomotso is a highly accomplished professional with a remarkable career spanning two decades. His journey began with a solid educational foundation, including a Marketing Management Diploma and an Honours Degree in Marketing Management from the Institute of Marketing Management.
Throughout his career, Kgomotso has demonstrated impressive versatility by excelling in various management and executive roles across diverse industries. His expertise has had a significant impact on sectors such as telecommunications, media, engineering, and financial services, among others.
Elected Director: Charl du Toit
Charl’s business Career spans almost 55 years during which time he started and managed several multi-million Rand businesses and served on many Industry Boards including WRSA.
Currently, he owns and manages a property portfolio, THE SUCCESS ACADEMY, consisting of 130,000 m² prime office space with no less than 500 company tenants.
Charl’s passion is nature and the preservation of our wildlife. He owns two game ranches, Silent Valley Stud Game Breeders (South Africa) and Klawerberg Stud Game Breeders (Namibia).
Charl’s strength is his ability to see the Big Picture and to put together a long-term plan that excites people, and to carry out that vision.
