APPROVAL FROM DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL HEALTH ALLOWING AUTHORISED PRIVATE VETS TO MOVE BUFFALO IN LIMPOPO

After two years of hard work, we have officially received approval from the Director of Animal Health to allow authorised private veterinarians to move buffalo with state approval for Limpopo.

Permission was granted to The Buffalo Company, in collaboration with the Veterinary Services of Limpopo Province, to proceed with a pilot project in Limpopo Province. The pilot project is limited to testing of buffalo in Limpopo Province, and movement of buffalo within and out of Limpopo Province to all Provinces except the Free State Province. Movement to destination provinces will only be allowed if prior written approval from the Provincial Director was received and agreed upon. The pilot project will run for a period of 12 months and the decision on continuation and associated roll-out of testing to other provinces thereafter, will be discussed at future MinTech VWG meetings.

Congratulations to Dr David Pretorius and Dr Richard Burroughs for all their hard work and effort. Thank you for all the support we have received from our National Council.

This is a massive step forward for our industry and for buffalo in the country.
