33rd Annual CITES Animals Committee meeting

In July, our CEO, Richard York, traveled to Geneva to participate in the pivotal 33rd Annual CITES Animal Committees Meeting. This significant event brought together experts and stakeholders from around the globe to discuss critical issues facing wildlife conservation and trade.

At the meeting, key topics included:

  • Sustainable Trade Practices: Strategies were debated to ensure that wildlife trade supports conservation rather than undermining it. Discussions focused on developing guidelines that balance economic benefits with ecological preservation.
  • Species Conservation Status: Updates were provided on the status of various species, with a particular focus on those under threat. The meeting highlighted efforts to strengthen protection measures and enhance recovery plans for endangered species.
  • Regional Collaboration: Emphasis was placed on fostering cooperation between countries and regions to address cross-border wildlife trade issues. Successful case studies and collaborative frameworks were shared to inspire broader partnerships.
  • Innovation in Monitoring: The introduction of new technologies and methodologies for monitoring wildlife trade was a major theme. Innovations such as advanced tracking systems and data analytics were showcased as tools to improve enforcement and conservation outcomes.
