Media Release: Update on Foot And Mouth Disease Outbreaks in the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu-Natal Provinces

Included: Updated FMD report of 30 November 2024

In overview this media statement confirms that no new cases have been reported in the Eastern Cape since 19 September 2024, but that the Disease Management Areas (DMA) declared in July 2024 remain in place.

In Kwazulu-Natal, the FMD outbreak that began in May 2021, has unfortunately extended and as result the boundaries of the existing DMA are under review.

The strict control measures in both provinces regarding movement restrictions remain in place and farmers are urged to take every precaution in maintaining strict biosecurity measures especially in unaffected areas.
