The FMD outbreak is getting worse as there is a another suspected outbreak of FMD in a big feed lot in the North West province.

The situation is dire, and a private-public partnership is being proposed to:

  1. Address the current situation and the containment of the current outbreaks, and
  2. Develop a strategy to eventually regain FMS free status

In cooperation to this end, The Southern African Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (SASVEPM) is organising a national webinar for our members about Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) on 23 June 2022 from 13:00 to 16:30. This will be a two-hour information session with six panellists followed by an hour of interactive discussion.

This will be an important opportunity to address some of the challenges to FMD control in South Africa through engagement, information sharing and exchange of field experiences. The goal of the webinar is to contribute to the collective efforts for the speedy control of the disease in the country.

Invited speakers: Prof. Geoffrey Fosgate, Dr Livio Heath, Dr Mpho Maja, Dr Oupa Rikhotso, Dr Chris Mabaso and Dr Cameron Kutwana.
